After getting into a Phoenix auto accident, there are five simple steps that you should take to ensure the safety of you and others involved.

Step #1: Move to a Safe Place

If possible, move your vehicle to the shoulder of the road or another area that is out of the way and safe. Turn on your hazards in order to warn other drivers and make sure your vehicle is in park and properly braked before getting out. Place flares around the car if available.

Step #2: Check on Others

Once your car is out of the way, check on anyone else who was involved in the accident to ensure they are safe. This includes your passengers as well as the drivers and passengers of other vehicles involved in the accident.

Step #3: Call the Police

Even if the accident was minor, the police should be called in order to write an accident report. The report will be essential when it comes time to deal with your insurance company or the insurance company of the other driver.

Step #4: Exchange Information

You should then exchange information with the other people involved in the accident. This information should include names, license plate numbers, insurance information and the make and model of all vehicles involved. Be sure to also note the location of the accident, the badge number of the reporting officer and the contact information of any witnesses.

Step #5: Take Photos

Taking photos of the scene can be beneficial when it comes time to file a claim.
