Preparing for the Flu and Cold Season

With flu and cold season upon us, taking steps to prevent yourself and your family from getting sick is important. To that end, here are some tips you might want ot implement to help keep yourself feeling well this season.

  • Wash Your Hands: Germ-ridden hands are one of the biggest spreaders of the cold and flu virus. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap for 20 seconds multiple times throughout the day to keep the germs away.
  • Utilize Sanitizer Stations: Put a bottle of hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol in every room in your house and give yourself a squirt every time you pass it by.
  • Disinfect: Take a few moments each day to disinfect heavily touched items, such as remote controls, doorknobs and phones.
  • Switch to Paper: Using paper towels instead of hand towels and paper cups instead of glasses can help to prevent the spread of germs.

In addition to taking these precautions, you can also prepare for illness in your family by stocking up on pre-made lunches and dinners that can be used if you need a few days to rest and recovery. You should also stock up on other supplies, such as hand soap, hand sanitizer, tissues and paper towels. You might also want to consider purchasing some items to keep your family occupied in case of illness, such as coloring books, puzzles or DVDs.
